Bill Curry

L.A. Space Pop

Bill Curry was called 'one of California’s leading designers' by the Los Angeles Times and his Stemlite series became a bestseller amongst lighting in mid-century America.

Bill Curry (1927—1971) was known for bringing innovation and art into lamps by utilising bulbs to add style and for sending the stereotypical base and shade lamp designs out of vogue. Industrial Design Magazine labeled his collection 'Best Lamps of the Year' and his iconic Stemlites were selected by the U.S. Department of Commerce for display in exhibitions in the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, and Iraq as prime examples of American design.

With more than 50 national design awards, including the Award of Distinctive Merit from the New York Art Directors Club, Bill Curry was a sum of parts. From his early years as a Ad Man, Graphic Designer and Creative Director he ventured into lighting and interior design and founded Design Line to become a huge success in the 1960s and 70s. Galleries and museums in California have been honoring his design ever since for being Los Angeles Space Age Pop at its finest.
